It’s true that English is deemed to be the global language, and widely used in almost all areas: daily communication, business, commerce, media, tourism, education, science, politics, diplomacy, etc. Those with excellent English language knowledge and skills have huge advantages, and thus are able to seize plentiful career opportunities in a range of fields.
The Department of English Language at Ho Chi Minh City Banking University (HUB) aims to provide students with a deep understanding of the linguistics and cultures of English-speaking countries, and the ability to proficiently use language skills. Our training programs have been built based on the foundation of social science, knowledge of language skills, English linguistic theories, British-American culture and literature, and translation-interpretation from basic to advanced levels.

At HUB, English majored students can choose from either of the two programs including Business English or English-Chinese programs.
Business English Program: Built on the generic foundation of the English Language major, Business English program supplies students with a large amount of specialized English terminology and background knowledge in the fields of business, management, commerce, marketing through the following subjects: English for Business Law, Business English, English for Human Resource Management, English for Marketing, etc. The program also provides opportunities for students to consolidate and practice English language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing so that they can utilize them fluently in communication and professional situations, in translation and interpretation in the contexts of economics and commerce, in communication and presentation in English environments and other personal skills.

English-Chinese Program:
Along with English, Chinese is also the second most spoken language in the world with the population of more than 1.4 billion of Mainland China and huge Chinese-speaking communities around the world. In Vietnam, enterprises from Mainland China and Taipei are also among the largest groups of foreign investors. That always creates a huge demand for workforce who understand business Chinese. At HUB, English majored students can also choose the English-Chinese Program.
Built on the generic foundation of the English Language major, students of the English - Chinese Program are not only provided with the opportunity to consolidate and practice English listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, English - Vietnamese, Vietnamese - English translation and interpretation skills in the field of commerce, but also equipped with General Chinese and Business Chinese subjects. In addition, students are also powered with knowledge about Chinese culture and language used in the fields of office work, finance and banking. With this major, students are not only fluent in English but also in Chinese.

Graduates of the English Language major at HUB can take up the following positions:
- Tier 1: Specialist translators - interpreters working in diplomatic agencies, publishing companies, news agencies, television stations, radio stations, domestic and foreign enterprises, international organizations, non-governmental organizations.
- Tier 2: International relations specialists, assistants in the foreign affairs, international relations and foreign affairs departments of diplomatic agencies, ministries, local bodies, non-governmental organizations, public agencies, multinational companies, enterprises, economic groups, state agencies, universities, hospitals.
- Tier 3: Teachers of general and specialized English at universities, colleges, academies, foreign language centers after acquiring additional pedagogical knowledge and skills.
- Tier 4: Excutives in administration, human resources, marketing, sales; assistants, secretaries at commercial banks, financial institutions, import-export companies, foreign organizations and businesses.
In addition to the learning time with lectures, in order to gain the opportunity to experience and measure their knowledge, HUB's English majors can participate in academic competitions, English music contests, and activities of the English clubs. Many students have achieved high prizes in prestigious academic exams, asserting the capacity and quality of HUB English language students. International volunteer activities, cultural exchange programs and student exchange programs with international schools that are in partnership with HUB are considered as opportunities for students to practice and improve their ability to use language, to accumulate social knowledge and international experience. Moreover, the students also actively participate in other activities organized by the the Student Union proving their positive attitude and responsibility towards the school and the society.
