SEMINAR ON “IMPROVING QUALITY AND DIVERSIFYING ACTIVITIES FOR DEVELOPING READING COMPREHENSION SKILLS”

On the morning of August 28, 2024, the Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ho Chi Minh University of Banking (HUB) successfully organized the seminar on “Improving Quality and Diversifying Activities for Developing Reading Comprehension Skills.” Members in attendance included Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Phương Dung, MA - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; Dr. Le Thi Thuy Nhung - Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages; and lecturers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages at HUB.

The seminar served as a forum for HUB's Foreign Languages faculty to discuss and update the latest trends in teaching reading comprehension skills at the university level. The insights gained from this seminar would provide a foundation for improving teaching quality or inspiring scientific research ideas and further studies. Additionally, the event aimed to introduce current technological applications within the Faculty of Foreign Languages to assist students in practicing and developing self-study reading comprehension skills.

The main speaker of the seminar was Dr. Nguyen Quang Nhat – Head of Division of Languages for Specific Purposes. His presentation focused on two key areas: (1) the main content and current trends in teaching and researching English reading comprehension skills, and (2) the technological applications currently being used by the Faculty of Foreign Languages to support students' self-study in developing these skills.

After the presentation, participating lecturers raised questions regarding the application of technology in different courses and the transfer of technology to enhance students' independent learning abilities. The seminar sparked lively discussions on scientific grounds, clarifying several relevant issues and identifying new research directions for future studies on the application of technology in teaching reading comprehension and other subjects.
