The subsequent presentation was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Le Nguyen Hoang Giang from Thompson Rivers University, Canada, on the topic “Teacher Identity Constructs and Frameworks in Qualitative Research.” The session immediately captured the audience’s attention as Assoc. Prof. Le walked attendees through foundational concepts of teacher identity as a multi-layered, fluid, and evolving construct, one shaped by processes of socialization and influenced by social, cultural, and political forces. Central to her argument was the notion of identity as inherently ‘porous and shifting,’ a perspective that challenges static conceptions of the language teacher’s role.

Assoc. Prof. Le continued with “Theoretical Frameworks of Teacher Identity,” in which she examined three interconnected frameworks: Social Identity Theory, Situated Learning, and Language Teacher Identity as Image-Text. She drew particular attention to the concept of reflexivity and culturally responsive pedagogy as pillars of advanced teacher identity.

The theoretical depth of both sessions was balanced by practical implications, making the content highly relevant for language educators and researchers navigating Vietnam’s rapidly internationalizing academic landscape.
