Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, December 27, 2023 - The Faculty of Foreign Languages at Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking (HUB) hosted a seminar with focus on the importance of language skills in job applications. The seminar, titled "Employing language skills to effectively facilitate job application," was attended by over 200 students majoring in English Linguistics at HUB, as well as faculty members and guests from Navigos Group.
The seminar was moderated by Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Dung and Dr. Luu Hon Vu, both Vice Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. The seminar was honored to welcome guests including Mr. Bui Cong Thanh, Head of the Research and Development Department at Sacombank, Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Hong, Senior Talent Recruitment Expert at Navigos Group, Ms. Mai Trúc Nghi, PR Expert at Navigos Group, Ms. Nguyen Kim Tuyền, Marketing Expert at Navigos Group, and Ms. Nguyen Le Thanh Trúc, PR Officer at Navigos Group.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Luu Hon Vu Vu emphasized the importance of language skills in the globalized workforce setting. He noted that employees with a strong command of language skills are in high demand in the current job market. Therefore, students need to constantly improve their language skills as a competitive advantage.

The first speaker of the seminar was Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet Hong, a senior talent recruitment expert at Navigos Group. In her presentation, Ms. Hong offered hands-on tips for structuring a CV that would impress employers. She also emphasized the importance of formatting, content, and proofreading, and pointed out common mistakes that students and job seekers would make when writing a CV, as well as offered suggestions for improvement.

As the next speaker delivered his presentation, Mr. Bui Cong Thanh discussed the significance of language skills in the job application and in the workplace. He stressed that graduates with strong language skills, specifically English, are in the top 5% of the workforce. In addition to improving their language skills, they also need to develop soft skills such as critical thinking and how to have confidence. Being open to learning and adapting will help students to shape their image and land a good job in the future. Throughout his talk, Mr. Thanh opened up opportunities for students to practice their public speaking skills and their ability to understand various English accents from India, France, and China.

In the Q&A session, the HUB students had the opportunity to voice their concerns, one of which was the lack of experience after graduation. In response, Ms. Hong and Ms. Nghi, representatives of Navigos Group, emphasized that graduates still have opportunities to land jobs in the market. By improving their English skills and getting involved in clubs and social activities, they will be more competitive in the eyes of employers. In addition, Mr. Thanh shared his thoughts on the impact of AI on job searching and workplace competition. He stressed the importance of students being proactive in their learning and development, and of strengthening their adaptability in order to quickly adapt to the changing world in the future.
