Opening remarks by Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Duc TrungRector of HUB
As he delivered his opening speech, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Nguyen Duc Trung firmly believed that the corpora is an effective tool, handy for researching, teaching and learning languages including English. They also do wonders for language learners with regard to gaining a better understanding of the language they are studying. To illustrate his point, Dr. Trung pointed out particular collocational patterns with common English verbs like "get", and "take", as well as how high these words’ frequency was in English.
Much to the attendees’ surprise, Dr. Trung revealed that HUB’s initiatives involved in developing two corpora, namely the English Corpus of Level-based Reading Texts and the Vietnamese Learners’ English Corpus, were underway. He believed that the seminar would satisfy the need of academic values in terms of scientific research activities for both teachers and students of the HUB Faculty of Foreign Languages.
